In recent years the bathroom has transitioned away from being viewed as not much more than that small, utilitarian space just down the hall. It's now an exciting venue for showcasing your own style, whether it be in a pristine but welcoming guest bathroom, a relaxing master bath, or through fun, bright interior paint colors chosen for a busy household.
As you work through the process of choosing your bathroom paint, however, it's very important to consider more than color and style alone. After all, the paint you select has a lot of work to do, and you need to be sure it's up to the task.
Bathroom Paint Considerations
As you persuse swatches and start the fun process of imagining what could be, here are a few things to think through:
- Choosing the right gloss - Because the product you choose needs to be able to withstand scrubbing, wear and tear, and maybe even occasionally being towel-dried (especially if you have a dog!), it needs to be tough. Try a semi-gloss paint! High-gloss is even more durable, but it is not very forgiving and shows imperfections quickly and easily.
- What kind of paint does your bathroom need? - If your bathroom is used frequently and you prefer your showers steamy, it can be worthwhile to invest in a mold and mildew-resistant formula.
- Ventilation - Keeping the air dry and fresh goes a long way when it comes to protecting your bathroom's interior. Be sure that you have an exhaust fan that is fully-functioning and up to the challenge.
- Lighting - When it comes to showcasing your bathroom, lighting that is even and bright will eliminate shadows that can create the appearance of uneven spots or differing tones.
